Greenhouse Plug-White Elm
35 metres (115 feet)
Appearance: Dark green, rough leaves; often zigzagged twigs. Form is spreading, vase or umbrella-shaped crown. Bark is dark grey-brown, and deeply furrowed.
Site and soils: Best on rich, moist, sandy or gravelly loam with good drainage. Tolerates some shade, but best in full sun.
Urban settings: A once common city street, park and rural landscape tree. Many of the large trees have succumbed to Dutch elm disease. It appears some trees are less susceptible.
