Chemical Spray Operator

This is a nursery operation support person whose primary role is Pesticide spraying and Fertilizing of all Field crops, directly under the Field Operations Technician. The spray technician will give support to the Cultural Technician and Field Operations Technician. They will also be involved in all other nursery operations as priorities change throughout the growing season.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Proper applications of all Pesticides and Fertilizers
Calibration of spray equipment
Day to day maintenance of equipment
Report problems to the Maintenance Supervisor
Know how to properly determine amounts of Pesticides and Fertilizer
Assisting in the seeding of all bareroot seedling stock (Tractor Operator)
Assisting in the transplanting of all bareroot stock and greenhouse stock (Tractor Operator)
Assisting with the planting, maintaining and cutting poplar stool beds off for production
Assists with mechanical weed control of field products (Tractor and 3 pt. hitch equipment)
Assists with irrigation set up, tear down and watering
Provides support for the cultural and operations technicians in the implementation of their duties
Assists with all field lifting operations (Tractor Operator)
Assists with management of field staff if in the event the Field Tech. or crew leader is off
Operates nursery tractors and equipment as qualified
Assisting with the root cultural program (Tractor Operator)
Up to date maps, for the Cultural Technician 
Up to date Chemical and Fertilizing records for the Field Operation Technician
Other duties as assigned
Has experience operating a variety of farm tractors and 3 point hitch equipment, 3 point hitch field boom sprayer, landscaping equipment and forklifts. ( Also: back pack sprayers, wipers, dobbers, mankar and inter- row sprayers) Training on the sprayers will be provided.
Know how to calibrate a number of different sprayers
Valid G class drivers licence in good standing
Growers Pesticide licence minimum
Self motivated and a staff motivator
Good communicator and listener
Good knowledge of the occupational health and safety act
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate
Good time and work management skills
Willing and able to work a variety of hours, including 10 hour days, weekends, early mornings and evenings, as required to meet the work priorities
Willing and able to work in all weather, cold, heat, snow and rain
An excellent individual and team worker
Must be willing to take courses
All courses to do the job will be up to the employee and paid by the employee. The nursery will reimburse the employee after 1 year of service if employee is still employed by the Ferguson tree nursery.

$18.00 per hour
9 months work
$150 clothing allowance after 1 consecutive year of service, if still employed with Ferguson Tree Nursery
This is a seasonal position, 40 hours per week, core hours 8-4:30 Monday to Friday with additional hours required as needed. This position is very weather dependent. March – November. Working some weekends and 10 hour days, during our peak season.
